SAMARBETSLAND ZIMBABWE<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Zimbabwe is located in southern Africa and is bordered to the south by the Limpopo River and to the north by the Zambezi River and borders Botswana, Zambia, South Africa and Mozambique. The country has no coastline and is located on a high plateau with the capital Harare at about 1530 m above sea level. The population consists of just over 16 million (2016) and over 60% are under 25 years of age. Official languages \u200b\u200bare English, Shona and Ndebele. The country has been hit hard by AIDS and it has put a heavy financial burden on the health sector. Dentistry is a 5-year course, and \"Dental therapists\" who have a 3-year course are also trained. It is estimated that there are 300 active dental care staff in the country.<\/p>\n

Our partner for TLUG is Dr Advance Chingwena, active at the United Methodist Dental Clinic in central Harare and a teacher at the dental college. Out in the country, there are three satellite clinics: Old Mutare and Mutambara in the east towards Mozambique, as well as Nyadire northeast of Harare. Many people live in the areas, and there are schools as well as hospitals.<\/p>\n

Swedes have helped to build up dental care within the United Methodist Church both in Harare and out in the countryside since the mid-1980s. Back then, dental care was SIDA-supported, but since 2003, the clinic that we collaborate with has managed completely on its own, despite the very difficult economic situation that has prevailed in the country.<\/p>\n

TLUG has been active in Zimbabwe since 2009 with the work at the clinics outside the country. Preventive work is the cornerstone of the projects, but acute treatments are also carried out. Some cooperation has been carried out with the dental college in Harare and at the Newlands AIDS clinic, also in Harare.<\/p>\n

Tandl\u00e4kare utan gr\u00e4nser (Dentists without borders) traveled with the first group of volunteers in January 2009, since then there have been two groups every year. The villages we have worked in are Old Mutare and Mutambara in the eastern part of the country.<\/p>\n

In order to achieve long-term improved oral health, the volunteer groups now work primarily through so-called \"outreach\" at schools. During the visits to the schools, education, preventive care and emergency treatment are given to the students. Investment is also made in toothbrush projects, which mean that the children brush their teeth every day at school.<\/p>\n

The volunteer trips usually last for about two weeks in February and June-July.<\/p>\n

D\u00e5 var tandv\u00e5rden SIDA-st\u00f6dd men sedan 2003 har kliniken som vi samarbetar med klarat sig helt p\u00e5 egen hand, trots det mycket sv\u00e5ra ekonomiska l\u00e4ge som r\u00e5tt i landet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TLUG har sedan 2009 varit verksamma i Zimbabwe med arbetet p\u00e5 klinikerna ute i landet. F\u00f6rebyggande arbete \u00e4r grundstenen i projekten men \u00e4ven akuta behandlingar utf\u00f6rs. Visst samarbete har bedrivits med tandl\u00e4karh\u00f6gskolan i Harare och p\u00e5 Newlands AIDS klinik, ocks\u00e5 i Harare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tandl\u00e4kare utan gr\u00e4nser reste med f\u00f6rsta volont\u00e4rsgruppen i januari 2009, sedan dess har det varit tv\u00e5 grupper varje \u00e5r. De byar som vi har arbetat i \u00e4r Old Mutare och Mutambara i den \u00f6stra delen av landet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

F\u00f6r att uppn\u00e5 l\u00e5ngsiktig f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttrad oral h\u00e4lsa jobbar numera volont\u00e4rgrupperna fr\u00e4mst genom s\u00e5 kallad \u201doutreach\u201d p\u00e5 skolor. Under bes\u00f6ken p\u00e5 skolorna ges utbildning, f\u00f6rebyggande v\u00e5rd samt akutbehandling till eleverna. Det satsas \u00e4ven p\u00e5 tandborstprojekt som inneb\u00e4r att barnen borstar t\u00e4nderna varje dag i skolan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volont\u00e4rresorna brukar p\u00e5g\u00e5 i cirka tv\u00e5 veckor i februari och juni-juli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
