WHO CAN WORK AS A VOLUNTEER?

We cater to all dental professionals, including dental technicians as we have a small lab in Tanzania where simple prosthetic dentures can be produced. Students in the dental professions are welcome subject to availability.

WHAT DO YOU DO AS A VOLUNTEER?

The main aim is to work preventively in order to be able to improve both oral and general health in the long term. We also perform some emergency dental care, mainly consisting of extractions, repairs and tartar removal. The projects are not static and also vary from country to country.

DO YOU NEED CERTAIN EXPERIENCE TO GO OUT?

There is no requirement from TLUG's side, but you should feel secure in your professional role.

HOW LONG ARE YOU GONE?

The projects last for two weeks and take place twice a year. Changes may occur, but in such cases will be clearly stated in the announcement.

WHICH COUNTRIES ARE CURRENT TO GO TO?

Tandläkare utan gränser has ongoing projects in Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Tanzania, the Philippines and Burkina Faso. 

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COSTS?

The volunteers themselves are responsible for travel, accommodation and subsistence. TLUG arranges, as far as possible, as cheap and good accommodation options for the volunteers as there is access to. TLUG provides the project with all equipment, instruments and medications. TLUG also covers transport costs within the country that are related to the project but also for the registration of certified personnel. Depending on the country, the volunteers themselves need to arrange the necessary vaccinations, visas and insurance.

HOW DO YOU APPLY TO WORK AS A VOLUNTEER?

Every volunteer project is announced on our website and our social media. There you will find instructions and the application deadline for submitting an application for the project you want to participate in. You can read more information under the tab "become a volunteer"

DOES TLUG RUN ANY PROJECTS IN SWEDEN?

Currently, TLUG does not organize any projects in Sweden, but has a collaboration with the organization "Doctors in the World" by mediating volunteers who can get involved in Stockholm and help EU migrants with their dental care.

HOW IS A PROJECT ADVERTISED?

At the beginning of each calendar year, a preliminary summary of the planned projects is published on social media. Approximately 3 months before the planned departure, an advertisement is posted about the respective project on social media.
